Web Design For Dummies

My first class in web design last night. Lord help me. Because just because you spend untold hours on the internet doesn't mean you know a darn thing about it.  Fortunately a lovely lady named Sue sat next to me and every time she noticed my slack jawed look of abject confusion and terror she quietly reached over, took command of the mouse and helped me along.  Yes, I do believe in angels.  This ain't like like college in the 70's.  It's fast paced, there are assumptions you know the basics (thought I did, maybe not so much) and the bifocals I now wear make it incredibly difficult to see the power point at the front of the classroom and focus on the screen in front of you at the same time. *sigh*
I'm going to do it though. It's going to take blood, sweat and a whole lot of tears, but I'm going to do it. As the girls youth pastor was fond of saying "C gets you a degree." (Way to encourage excellence Chris!) but it's what I'm holding on to.
Pray for me...

  10. The thing albout glasses... mine are usually hanging under my nose like a mustache (they don't stay on top of my head) so I can see things close up, then I have to shift them over my eyes to see into the distance. One of the 'perks' of having years! Yes, I'll send a prayer your way - YOU CAN DO IT! ::Jill

  11. Kathy, one of my son's teachers had a saying that I've adopted for myself: "Fake it until you can make it." I've done a whole lots of fakin' but it's also allowed me to "make it" sometimes.

BTW, I just ordered the green house cottage pillow to keep my (your) other 2 house pillows company----if you keep making these pillows, and I keep buying them, pretty soon I'll have a neighborhood!

  12. WOW. Congrats for venturing into uncharted territory and stretching yourself. You are a motivator for all of us. The angels will be by your side! I wish I knew more about the computer. I just "fly by the seat of my pants". Sometimes it works - sometimes it doesn't and I find myself spending lots of time digging out of the mess I have made. Good Luck. You are admired.

I KNOW you'll do it. And some of us old friends might get really nice websites because of it...and get famous and rich because of it...
We are clinging to hope because of you...don't let us dowwwwn ;)

  15. Kathy, I feel your pain! I just finished up a class in Adobe Illustrator and it was hard! There were lots of assumptions in this class too...and it was on a mac and I have a pc at home. There was a wonderful lady next to me too...we helped each other and had some laughs about the younger people being so far ahead of us!

Stick "toitiveness" will help us in the end! Good luck and you can do it,

  36. Hi Kathy,
Just catching up on your posts. I know how difficult this might be, because when I worked in the MIS department at Morgan Stanley, the code that they so easily talked about, was difficult for me to relate to. It's like speaking a completely different language. Writing code more than creating pretty graphics. You will be great, remember familiarity does not make for a genius. Just because other classmates might be familiar does not mean they have your same talents and skill set. You will be brilliant at this.
